지역 지부 개편의 목적
지금까지 지역지부 이름으로 학교명, 도시명, 주명을 혼용하면서 혼란이 있었고, 신설 지부가 생길 때마다 발생하는 문제를 최소화하는 취지에서 2016년 협회 창립 30 주년을 계기로 지부 명칭 및 관할 지역 변경에 착수하였다. 이에 따라 원칙적으로 지부명은 각 지부가 관할 가능한 최대 영역으로 표시하고, 기존 지부 내에서 새로운 지부가 만들어질 경우에는 그 지역을 세분화하기로 하였다. 이렇게 함으로써 각 지부 관할구역을 명확하게 정의하고 각 지부에서 교류할 수 있는 회원들의 분포 지역을 넓혔다.
지부 개편 방법 및 추진 현황
- 지부 현황, 주요 도시 및 소속 대학, 접근성, 회원 수, 향후 성장 가능성, 공식 지역 명칭 등을 고려해 11지부로 개편하되 지부의 숫자는 그대로 유지한다.
- 이에 따라 변화가 없는 지부, 지부명이 변경되면서 관할지역이 일부 변경된 지부, 합치고 나누어져서 재구성된 지부, 그리고 아직 회원이 없는 지역이 지부 관할 지역으로 포함되었다.
- 지부 명칭은 정부나 주에서 사용하는 National Capital Region, Mainland British Columbia, Central and Southern Alberta, Greater Toronto 등의 공식 명칭을 최대한 사용하였다.
- School Chapter, Professional Society가 속하는 지부를 명시하였다.
- Professional Society(KONA, KESC, Medical Korean-BC, AKCAE)에 속하는 지부 결정이 필요한 경우 추후 결정하기로 한다.
- 이 지부 개편안은 2017년 자문위원회에 제출되었고, 자문위원회에서는 의견을 종합하여 2017년 8월 이사회에 의결 안건으로 제출하였다.
- 이사회에서는 지부 개편안을 의결하였다.
현 지부 현황
2022년 현재 캐나다 전역에 11개 지역 지부와 8개의 차세대 청년기술 전문가 지부, 4개의 전문인 단체(캐나다 온타리오 한인 간호사 협회, 캐나다한인기술자모임, 캐나다 BC주 한인보건 의료인 협회, 캐나다한인자동차기술자협회) 및 17개의 차세대 대학지부를 두고 있다.
